Christmas Presents and a Happy New Year!

I had a very enjoyable Christmas and got a lot of very nice things that I wanted and some surprises. I have pictures of what I gave, and will post some of what I received later.

I made more of the ornaments I made for the ornament swap for my mom and dad one for Ian and Jana (my brother and sister-in-law) and one for my sister.

For my mom I gave her a snowflake punch that she wanted, a couple home magazines, and this coaster set plus a couple dishrags - my first completed knitting project!!!

For my dad, I got him this ultra-cool tool that he can turn the christmas tree lights on and off by the touch of this ornament instead of crawling behind the tree. And I also knit him a coffee cozy!! I also knit another one for my friend mel.

For Shauna I made this awesome kit for her to make a collage. She has already made a couple and has posted them on her blog. She is redoing her room in brown, yellow, and green so I gathered paper and a dictionary, and buttons and a whole bunch of random stuff for her to create with and I think she did a mighty fine job. Oh and I got her some legwarmers too.

For Ian and Jana I donated to Ten Thousand Villages. WIth my donation 100 trees were planted in Haiti. A pretty cool way to help others I think! I also got them an ornament from there as well.

So it was a pretty good Christmas!

And now for New Years!!

I have made a few resolutions -

1. To read a book every month - which doesn't sound like a lot but when you're a student to read anything besides a textbook is pretty admirable. So I'm gonna try to make sure I get that much done at least.
2. I also really want to spend more time creating and making things cuz I really love it and I just want to make sure I make it a priority.
3. And thirdly I want to develop my tastes for good books, good movies, and good music further.

I'm pretty excited for this year. Its going to be good and productive I hope.

Happy New Year everyone!

My First Oil Pastel Drawing!!

Inspired by Kal Barteski's Oil Pastel Tiplet. ITs for my roommate who plays volleyball. I wanted to tell her to serve others and to serve the ball. :) And she loves daisies. Its my first ever doing anything like that and it was really fun. I have a really bad camera so sorry about the low quality picture.

I mailed out my ornaments for the swap last week. That was so much fun. I've gotten three of mine so I should be getting some more. Maybe today! I love getting mail.

This is how I packaged them. I really like how they look all lined up in a row. :)

Just three more exams and two days til l go home!

Actually Done!!

I actually finished all my ornaments for the swap!! I'm soo excited about them. ITs really my first project where I designed something like this and had to make a mass quanitity of them. I"m really excited about them, and I think in my humble opinion that they turned out quite well!! So I'm pretty proud of myself haha.
Watched a lot of House while sewing (seasons 1 and started 2 - SO good, dude). And watched Wedding Date - utter crap. And The Holiday - better than I remembered but sorta crappy still. I LOVE the idea of switching houses/lives for a couple weeks. But I would never have the guts those girls have to meet strangers like that I don't think! I would hope I would though. Or even sometimes, I dream about renting a house. Like how about this little place in Italy! haha SO COOL.

Anyway, time for another week of school - and I"m not ready. Well, I am (even though I sewed up ten of these little trees this weekend from scratch!), but I'm just not looking forward to it haha.

I think we can all be a little in danger of getting addicted to reading blogs and just being online in general with all the great stuff out there. This interesting article discusses some Korean kids who are "addicted" to the Internet, specifically gaming and virtual reality things. Personally, I think that kids should not have Internet access in their rooms - there should be a family computer with limited times on the internet. Opinions? How many hours a day do YOU spend online? Comment please!

Last paper this semester!!

Finished. Sigh... it feels so good to have this last paper done. Now, I only have less than a month until my exams! Crazy! And I still have many little assignments to do but I'm looking forward to making these ornaments for the swap.

And I need to make a few birthday cards and start Christmas shopping!

I'm excited to start it all and need to get going on it!

Here's a few things I want for Christmas -

CDs - Illinoise- Sufjan Stevens

Michigan - Sufjan Stevens

Feist CD's

Books - Searching for God Knows What - Donald Miller

Fabric, things for scrapbooking, a Starbucks Design Your own Mug.

One thing I'm loving these days is shadowboxes. They're such a cool way to do a collage of ephemera. Does anyone know of any tutorials or how to make these?

Well, have a great day everyone!

It is Remembrance Day here in Canada. We remember those who went to war and fought for the sake of this country. We remember those who lost their lives and those who lost loved ones. We thank you.
I did some more online shopping. I found out about a deal so I got both of these prints for $15!! i'm pretty excited. I've never bought prints really before so i'm a little bit nervous as to whether I'll like them when I get them. I always see ones I like online and am nervous to buy them. ButI thought this was a good price to experiment.

Aren't they cute?? I'm pretty excited to get them.

Hope all is well.

Watch This!

I really want to get a new watch, seeing as my old Mary-Kate and Ashley watch (its been a while eh?) stopped working recently. To score me some creds, I bought the watch on sale to know what time it was, you couldn't see that it was marykate and ashley at all and it was metal and dressy - not cheap looking. anyway, i know - its embarassing. So I really like this watch at all (Christmas present anyone??)

Here in Canada, it is Thanksgiving. Its been rainy so I haven't really been able to get outside which has been sad. We've sorta been cooped up in the house. But Happy Thanksgiving!

Man, I'm feeling so inspired these days. I've been spending so much time discovering new blogs and online shops. I don't think I ever want to go to a mall again!! There's just so much cooler, unique stuff out there!! And with internet being so fabulous its so easy to get! It also helps that the Canadian Dollar is practically at par with the American Dollar. My new favorite blog is Curious Bird. Not only does her constant crafting inspire me to get off my butt and learn how to sew and do some cool stuff, and also start making some more cards because I love making cards!! Also, I just love some of the things she's done with her life like quit her job with her boyfriend and travel around Asia and other places for 7 months!!! That is totally something I WILL do. I just think that is the coolest thing ever. She makes these beautiful shadowboxes that she sells at her website.
She always does things with super cool (often vintage) fabrics.
I don't want to appear like a creeper, but I've been reading through all her archives and am just loving everything she puts up. I'm psyched to start my own creativity!!
For the next week though I have so many papers to do I have no time. Right now I"m taking a relaxing evening to myself. But THen its time for crackdown!!

I made this collage a little while ago out of a whole bunch of pillows from Poppy Cotton. They're all so beautiful I couldn't decide which one I liked best so I made a collage for my desktop. haha.

They're so beautiful. I love them. Oh and since I"m on such a pillow kick, aren't these great too? These are from Sukie.

Well, I think that's all for today. Off to read some more archives. haha

What I bought Today

I did some online shopping for the first time in my life today. Its very exciting and I have to make sure I don't get in these moods very often. I purchased some things I've been looking at for a while and love. And everything was quite cheap.

These two t-shirts are from http://www.bythebeardofzeus.com/ They are closing their website (as soon as I find them dang it) and so everything (except jewelry) is on sale. So i got these shirts for $13 each.

I know that this is like the most random thing ever, but here in Canada, we have a holiday called Rememberance Day- where we remember the Canadian soldiers who have fought in wars. As a symbol, we pin a poppy onto our lapel. They do this in England as well. So i thought that this poppy would be a great idea. And I can use it every year hereafter. I got this from http://www.etsy.com/ for $5.

Finally, I got this shirt from www.modishoppe.com for $22. Its more than I would pay for a shirt if I went into the store and bought it. But guaranteed no one else will have this shirt (especially at my school) and I just really like it.

So, I've had a good first experience with online shopping, but like I said, I just dropped like $60!! So this can't happen too often.

I found some rings that I love to look at from Rachel Leigh. I'm just not sure if I would actually wear one. I think they could go great with an LBD though. They are quite pricey but i love them! The beads look so beautiful and they're so unique.

Would you wear a ring like this?

I also found an almost identical necklace to one I have. Although I got it a store in the mall on sale for $5.

I found some cool t-shirts on Target.com And they're all ten bucks! My favorite is the white one. I'm really into graphic design but lots of that stuff is really cutesy flowers so i like this cuz its still very graphic designy but its a little bolder. Which one do you like best?

Brown Baby!

I dyed my hair last night a really dark brown. It used to be light auburn (brown with red touch). I really like it but it is very dramatic. Its pretty much the same as Sophia Bush's hair here. My hair just past my chin though. I really like it. My skin is about as fair as Sophia's as well so it looks really good if I do say so myself.

I was looking through my dresser today and found an old shirt I had got from a cool vintage store in Whistler, BC a few years ago. Its a t-hirt that has undergone t-shirt reconstruction, which is a cool trend where you take a number of t-shirts and/or other materials with cool colours or patterns or whatever and cut them up and make a new shirt with it. I think my shirt is too small for me now unfortuneately, but i found this website that has many more (really cute ones) for sale.
Here's an example of one really cute one:
I want to try to go through my old clothes that don't reallyfit anymore or that have stains on them and instead of throwing them away try this cool idea! The thing is though, you can't just throw any old shirts together. they have to be good colours and fabrics that work well together. and there has to be some pattern or it will probably look weird unless they're really nice colours. So it could include some thorough hunting at some thrift stores or something but i think it would be fun.

Back to school shopping!

I went and did my back to school shopping this weekend. My parents gave me $100 to spend on back to school clothes. I've already bought a number of things this summer, including a new pair of straight cut (practically skinny) black pants from Tall Girl (I"m 6'0) for $20 which I was quite excited about.

Shopping List (things i purchased)
From Superstore
  • thick grey ribbed tights - size x-tall (up to 5'10). yah they're a bit awkward but i'll make em work) - $8
  • red skinny patent leather belt - $6
  • cowl neck thin knit t-shirt navy and dark grey subtle stripes - $24
  • white v-neck t-shirt - $4

From Wal-Mart

  • John Frieda Brilliant Brunette shampoo and conditioner
  • Sally Hansen Nail colour in a colour i can't find on the website its a dark blue, i'm hoping its not too bright - $2
  • Rimmel Waterproof Wide Eyes mascara
  • T-shirt bra - grey $10
  • black patent peep-toe shoes that aren't quite a heel but a bit of a wedge. but just like an inch heel - $15

So, it was a pretty successful shopping excursion. Joe at Superstore has a lot of great stuff. I wish I didn't have to buy stuff at Wal-mart but as a struggling student, they've got what i need at the right price.

Beautiful Vases

These vases are designed by Hella Jongerius. THey are available at IKEA!! BUT, they are $50... but they're gorgeous! I think the black one is my favorite.

Exciting Discovery

So somehow, I found this ultra-cool blog this week. http://www.ohjoy.blogs.com/ Its done by this girl who owns her own designing business, and she has great ideas. I've been going through her complete archive starting from two years ago and I've been getting so excited about different pictures she'll have on for inspiration, different fashion she finds, and other designers. I've been discovering all these cool shops in the states and all this stuff i love. I've saved so many pictures and bookmarked so many pages. haha its really brilliant and inspiring. It reeeally makes me wish i could draw so that could be my life. sigh. at least she writes a blog so she can make my life more enjoyable haha!

Also, i went shopping in this cool area of town - Kensington- yesterday for the first time and discovered several cool stores that i love.

This store is full of vintage garden pieces, quirky french style gifts, candy, body products, "shabby chic" decor items. I really like it. Its a great gift store.

Next, http://www.boxpaperscissors.ca/

This stores is full of cool paper and things to make cards, they also have a wedding invitation service. They have lots of cute cards and boxes and paper and stuff. I love making cards so this is a cool store for me.

Also, a clothing store called Purr. It doesn't have a website and i didn't spend a ton of time inside, but they had gorgeous clothes.
So, I'm excited about these new discoveries, and can't wait to go back to them probably tomorrow or the next day.

An Exciting Story

This is my way of saying a public thank you to "the man in the blue suit jacket."
Yesterday I was taking the train home from work, and was sitting on a bench and reading my book. A man was standing on the end of the train behind the plexiglass poster thing, so I couldn't see him. He was talking on his cell phone and was getting into a fairly heated discussion about something or other. It started to get quite loud and finally he slammed his phone shut. I was glad that we wouldn't have to listen to taht anymore. A couple stops later however, he got on the phone again. I believe he was talking to his wife. After some quiet heated discussion, it got so loud that i had to stop reading and just look up in disbelief. He was swearing and almost yelling and saying "SHUT UP! I JUST WANT YOU TO SHUT UP FOR A MINUTE!!!" Then all of a sudden the man in the blue suit jacket who was sitting in front of me, who I think had seen my look of disgust, jumped up and told the man "You need to make your private conversation a private conversation." The phone guy was not happy about this. He started swearing at blue suit guy and telling him to take a hike and get out of his face. But blue suit guy (who did not look like your typical hero) stood his ground and said that we didn't have to listen to him. The phone guy started telling his wife about the "moron on the train." I just looked out the window, wanting to cry and puke at the same time, praying that phone guy wouldn't punch blue suit guy or something. While this happened the train was stopped for some reason, which added to the mounting tension. As the train started to go the man continued talking but not as loud or as rudely. He was still very upset with blue suit guy. As we got off the train phone guy yelled "A**Hole!!" I felt so bad for blue suit guy because he was doing the right thing for sure, but this jerk made him feel like the idiot. I didn't get a chance to say thank you to blue suit guy so here it is - Blue Suit guy - you did the right thing and i thank you for standing up to that man. Don't back down!

Red Cardigan

I just recently bought an LBD from H&M which was on sale for $15. I want to get bright accessories that i can wear with it. Today i saw a cropped red cardigan, similar i think, to the one below except v-neck and a gorgeous red. It was at Suzy Shier for $25. NOt sure if it would look good with the dress though because the dress is sort of drapey at the neck and stuff, but it was a good idea for a way to make the dress look different. Don't know how i feel about paying more for the cardigan than the dress though!

Red Ipod

yup!! I'm the only person in North America left who doesn't have an ipod. I ride the train every day and actually feel in the minority without one. I was wanting the black 30GB one but really, although I do have alot of music I don't listen to 30GB worth. ANd so I went to www.apple.com to find a picture and saw this and if you buy one, Apple donates $10 to fight AIDS in Africa, which is something I feel strongly about. So now this makes me want to get an Ipod even more, to support this great idea of theirs. And also, it will just help raise awareness cuz who's seen a red ipod before?
I'm a student, so I don't exactly have a ton of money at my disposal but I've just realized that there are so many thing that I want. SOme things I need to buy in the next few weeks, some I probably won't get for 10 years. This is just my wishlist. And I thought it would be a good pasttime, because my summer job can get a bit boring, and I need something to do!! Plus, maybe by living vicariously through my wishlist I won't be as tempted to actually buy these things. hahaha. yah right....

I can't believe i just entered the blogging world. I must be really bored.
